May 24th - STATEMENT ON A FIRST MEETING WITH University Management from the USYD Students Representative Council - ??Disclose! Divest! We will not stop, We will not rest!?
"Today representatives from the Usyd GazaSolidarity encampment met with Vice-Chancellor Mark Scott and Provost Annamarie Jagose to discuss the demands of the encampment.
This comes after four weeks of sustained protest action on campus and decades of pro-Palestine activism - during which we have seen overwhelming support from students, staff and the community for our demands for the disclosure of our university's ties to Israel. Divestment from companies profiting from the genocide, and cutting ties with complicit Israeli institutions and weapons manufacturers.
Since the encampment began, University management have consistently refused our requests for a public meeting to discuss our demands. Today's closed-door meeting did not produce any commitment from The University, and instead devolved into a debate about the university's values of academic freedom "disagreeing well".
The University's intransigence on the question of disclosure and divestment is deplorable and has only strengthened our commitment to sustaining the encampment until our demands are met.
We expect a proposal from University management to be returned early next week.
DISCLOSE. DIVEST. WE WILL NOT STOP. WE WILL NOT REST."
