Motions:
1. This SGM rejects the new definition of antisemitism adopted by all Australian universities in February. This definition is designed to silence opposition on campus to apartheid Israel and its blatant war crimes. There is nothing antisemitic about calling for the end of an apartheid state that is committing genocide. We demand USyd withdraw the new definition of antisemitism it adopted, with 38 other Australian universities, in February.
2. This SGM reaffirms the motion passed at last year’s SGM endorsing the call for a single, secular, democratic state across all of historic Palestine, from the River Jordan to the Mediterranean Sea. This would be a single state where Palestinians, Jews, Muslims, and people of all faiths and backgrounds live in freedom and equality. It is not antisemitic to call for the elimination of the apartheid state of Israel and its replacement with a genuinely democratic state for all people.
3. This SGM demands USyd completely revoke the anti-protest Campus Access Policy (CAP) and commit to guaranteeing that no further restrictions on free speech and the right to protest be enacted. The proposed ban on class announcements must be withdrawn. Further, this SGM demands USyd immediately withdraw the disciplinary proceedings against USyd student Luna, a transgender asylum seeker threatened with disciplinary action for writing pro-Palestine slogans, like “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” on whiteboards. This SGM demands USyd drops all disciplinary proceedings initiated under the CAP against any student or staff member.
4. This SGM demands USyd end its complicity in Israel’s apartheid regime and genocidal onslaught on Gaza. We demand that USyd end its exchange programs with Israeli universities the Technion, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and Tel Aviv University. All Israeli universities are integral to Israel’s racist apartheid regime. We also demand that USyd end its research partnerships with weapons companies like Thales, Lockheed Martin, and Safran. All these weapons companies have profited from selling weapons to the Israeli Defence Forces while it commits war crimes against Palestinians.
5. This SGM commits the USyd SRC to financially and materially providing resources to support the campaign to defend the right to protest, scrap the CAP, drop disciplinary charges, and cut all ties between the university and apartheid Israel.
